CRS reports

The recent report of the Congressional Research Service praising Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi for good work in his State is welcome (Sept. 15), but I strongly feel that the U.S. has no right to comment on the internal matters of India and its political system. Opinions about who will be the next Prime Minister and so on are best left to us.

The U.S. seems to be more concerned in the political developments of other countries, including India, to gauge the political scenarios, even stretching it to bet on future leaders, as the latest CRS report reveals. Every Indian is concerned about a stable government at the centre, headed by a level-headed and experienced leader. But isn't this American interference?

As the lead author of the CRS report referenced in The Hindu 's article, “BJP showcases U.S. report on Modi” (Sept. 15), I'd like to thank The Hindu for being the only Indian newspaper which honestly conveys the vitally important fact that Congressional Research Service reports are not primary sources.
