A year after the horrific assault on a 23-year-old girl in Delhi, the Union Finance Minister’s announcement that SOS alert systems will now have to be part of several steps to enhance women’s safety is welcome (Dec.17). Noteworthy is the introduction of an SOS alert button on mobile handsets. Perhaps, “1612” can be the code for this.
