Bishwanath Ghosh’s article ‘Grime on the Ghat’ in the Sunday Magazine (Oct.11) is one more affirmation of the saying ‘Where there is a will, there is a way’. The initiative taken by Temsutula Imsong to spruce up Prabhu Ghat in five days with a paltry amount of Rs.3000, without any governmental assistance, speaks volumes about what we ordinary mortals can achieve if we have the right intentions and are willing to put in the hard work. Instead of blaming the system and the government, if we take it upon ourselves to bring about a change, taking pride in our locality, things will begin to change for the better. One way in which each one of us can contribute to clean our environs is by managing our waste well. If each household starts segregating the waste and begins composting the biodegradable waste (which amounts to almost 70 per cent of the waste generated), we can reduce pollution.
