Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi (“Victory for the world’s children,” Oct.12) has rightly said that without child development, human development is impossible. India has the largest number of children in the world. Though we have made rapid strides in universalising primary education, about eight million children are out of school. The sharp drop in secondary school attendance, particularly among girls poses a big challenge. The government must focus on these issues.
