CBI & Supreme Court

May 15, 2013 02:03 am | Updated November 16, 2021 08:13 pm IST

Digvijay Singh’s objection to the Supreme Court’s observation that the CBI is a caged parrot is amusing. The court was right; the whole country knows it and the CBI Director has also agreed with the opinion. The former Law Minister should not have vetted the CBI status report in the coal allocation scam which was to be submitted to the Supreme Court.

Liberating the CBI from the strangle-hold of politicians will depend largely on people’s unflinching struggle to democratise the investigating agency. Unless corruption is eliminated, one cannot expect to see a change in our political culture. The CBI, which is controlled by politicians, will continue to remain a caged parrot with independence being just an ideal.
