Bringing politics into presidency

Under the Constitution of India, the President is a person of dignity held in high esteem by all sections of people, including those in high positions in government. He/she is supposed to guide government officials in following the Constitution. This requires the occupant of the office to have an independent opinion about the way the government is running.

The President is to be elected by the Electoral College consisting of elected representatives of the people. However, after the election, he/she has the responsibility to judge the members of the same Electoral College. Seeking support of political parties undermines the dignity of the office.
