BJP’s outreach

Narendra Modi’s Muslim outreach is a positive development. Muslims need to engage the BJP to put their views across. They cannot wish the party away. The prudent way is to work with it to get their legitimate demands met.

That said, Syed Zafar Mahmood, who flayed the BJP for its “anti-Muslim” stand at the conclave of young leaders, should also ask the Congress some searching questions. What has the party done for Muslims other than paying lip service to their cause?

The BJP’s success in wooing Muslims is in the hands of the community which still remembers the Gujarat violence and the Babri Masjid demolition. Although the BJP was the villain in both the instances, the Congress kept quiet and watched the ugly dramas.
