Bail for Lakhvi

December 20, 2014 01:04 am | Updated 01:04 am IST

Pakistan’s flip-flop over granting of bail to 26/11 terror attack mastermind Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi points to its Janus-faced approach in dealing with terrorism. Whether the terrorists are from the LeT or the Taliban, their target will always be innocents. India and other Asian countries must condemn Pakistan’s attitude to terrorism.

The deposition by Ajmal Kasab is more than enough to implicate and proceed against Lakhvi. Pakistan is only digging itself deeper into a pit by not heeding advice to turn in all the terror elements. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif should now go after all of them. No sane and right-thinking person can tolerate terrorism in any part of the world. Using the Peshawar incident as the catalyst, Pakistan should act against terror before the monster it has nurtured turns against itself.

Just days after the savage attack on innocent children, how did Pakistan even have the mind to think about releasing a monster? Is this the national plan that Mr. Sharif talked about?

The one voice of the political spectrum in India in expressing its disapproval over Pakistan’s stance is appropriate and in tune with Indian sentiment. Pakistan can improve relations with India if it pays heed to our request to hand over all terror elements who have had a hand in fostering terror here. Let good sense prevail over our neighbour in the interest of good relations and also ensuring peace in the subcontinent.
