AAP and Varanasi

Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal’s decision to contest against the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi (“ >Kejriwal to test the water in Varanasi ,” March 26) may seem naive especially when almost every other political leader is busy engaged in a search for a safe seat. But, it is a move that gives us hope that politics will change with such principled decisions irrespective of the outcome. It cannot be denied that our larger-than-life leaders are rarely challenged on account of an unspoken understanding of political reciprocity. May this be a new start in reforming our democratic institutions.

By contesting against Mr. Modi, Mr. Kejriwal only wants to gain political mileage. His acts of showmanship at Varanasi show that he is no different from the others. He has not tossed his hat in the ring out of concern for the real issues. Where has he talked about fighting corruption, development and education?
