Traumatic childhood

December 15, 2009 12:15 am | Updated 12:17 am IST

The article “I only want you to enjoy your adulthood, my child” (Open Page, Dec. 13) R. Radhakrishnan hits out at the over-enthusiastic and ever ambitious parents whose tribe is, unfortunately, on the increase. Comparisons and complaints are galore in the upbringing of children. The don’ts outnumber the dos in their communication. Children are reared in a bewildering environment where they are taught to be wary of their own friends and always remain conscious of what they have to become.

Love, compassion, and sharing seem to have no place in the world of vulgar competition. In the name of safeguarding the future, children are forced to forsake their present.
