Soft on Saudi Arabia

The UN Security Council’s silence on the Saudi war on Yemen takes me back to the Rwanda crisis/genocide of the 1990s, when the UN didn’t act in time and countless lives were lost ( >Editorial, Aug.2 ). With the U.S. and the U.K. still going strong as arms suppliers to Riyadh, it looks like there will be no place for talks or resolution in the near future. It also highlights the “double standards” of the Council’s permanent members from the West which would generally be the first countries to issue statements regarding crisis situations across the world, while projecting themselves as upholders of human rights and world peace.
