Reality in Kashmir

Wajahat Habibullah’s article, “A season of loss in Kashmir” (Aug.8), is incomplete as it fails to mention the sad plight of the State’s Pandits who were made refugees in their own country. The book, Our Moon Has Blood Clots ,has detailed how the community was let down by neighbours and friends and colleagues. I would like to ask the “separatist leaders” of Kashmir where else in this world has there been a movement to free people that began with the ethnic cleansing of a section of people whose freedom they claim to be fighting for?

It was startling to find the names of Shah Faesal and Burhan Wani in the same sentence; the first is someone who is idolised while the second is someone who crossed the limit. The deaths of people in the Valley were not deliberate but a result of agitation and provocation by a handful of misguided people. Kashmiris are Indians. Let there be no second thoughts about this. The separatists are getting help from across the border with the aim of fomenting trouble. Instead of pointing out flaws in India, intellectuals such as Mr. Habibullah should expose those who spread hatred among Kashmiris and provoke the youth to attack our security forces.
