With even John Prescott, Britain’s former Deputy Prime Minister, making the statement that the invasion of Iraq was illegal, Tony Blair needs to face criminal action. (“Iraq War was illegal, says U.K.’s former Deputy PM,” July 12). Having contributed to the growth of Islamist terror, the war needs to be investigated by an international jury under the UN and the guilty charged and punished. Mr. Blair reacted to the Chilcot Report by trying to gloss over his culpability and arguing that he acted in “good faith” on the basis of the evidence available at the time. He conveniently overlooked the fact that the decision to invade the West Asian country was taken months before he presented his case to the U.K. Parliament. The objective, right from the beginning, was regime change. Iraq lost not just its identity and institutions but also precious architectural heritage, apart from more than 1,50,000 lives.
