Condemnable

March 22, 2011 12:55 am | Updated 12:55 am IST

This refers to the air attacks on Libya by the United States and many European countries to contain Muammar Qadhafi. Whether such a show of might will bring Col. Qadhafi around is doubtful because he has vowed to fight back with all his strength, at least for the moment. It is also doubtful if the Arab world will back the West in the long run. One only hopes Libya will not become another Vietnam.

The heavy aerial bombardment of Libya should be condemned in strong terms. Given the volatile situation, it would be best to leave the people of Libya to themselves to choose their rulers. The military intervention only reinforces the arm-twisting designs of the self-proclaimed champions of democracy and human rights.
