An irreplaceable loss

Even the musical instrument, the mandolin, would have cried out when its exceptional player Shrinivas passed away (“ >Incomparable, Irreplaceable ,” Sept. 20). In fact, the mandolin gained popularity because of Shrinivas and the maestro’s name tag became Mandolin. Shrinivas’ melodious tunes enthralled people of all age groups. His dedication and pursuit of excellence inspired upcoming musicians. His demise, at 45, is indeed a huge loss for the classical music world.

The music fraternity in particular is shocked to hear the news of the sudden passing away of Mandolin Shrinivas, who proved that a foreign musical instrument can effectively be used to bring out the best nuances of Carnatic music.
