A shame

It is a shame that the golden wrist watch presented to Lal Bahadur Shastri by his Soviet counterpart Aleksei Kosygin has been stolen from his memorial in New Delhi. The least our governments and leaders — who have thrown the principles of our erstwhile leaders to the winds — can do is to ensure that the belongings in the memorials are secure. The government must do everything it can to trace the wrist watch, not because it is made of gold but because it was presented to one of our great leaders.

The theft of invaluable items belonging to leaders deserves to be condemned in the strongest terms. The government should trace the culprits as soon as possible and take severe action against them. Security in important national institutions should be upgraded without delay.
