1857 martyrs

This refers to the reports on the remains of the martyrs of 1857 being exhumed in Punjab (March 3 & 4). The only jarring note was the use of the term “mutineers.” Participants of the First War of Independence were freedom fighters who laid down their lives for the independence of our nation. To pay them due respect, they should be referred to as “freedom fighters.” The term “mutiny” was used by the British and has no place in independent India.
