The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) officials on Friday conducted raids on the premises of former DMK minister K.R. Periakaruppan who is also the party's district secretary, and his relatives in at least 10 places in the State in connection with a disproportionate wealth case.
The raids were conducted at seven places in the district alone. The raids were led by Deputy Superintendents of Police of DVAC in different places.
Mr. Periakaruppan was the Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment in the DMK government. Mr. Periakaruppan's ancestral house at Aralikottai near Tiruppattur and a farm house were among the places searched.

The raids, which began early, continued till 4 pm.
It was alleged that Mr. Periakaruppan had amassed movable and immovable assets in his name and in family's to the extent of more than Rs.1 crore, disproportionate to his known sources of income, during his tenure as Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister for a brief period.

A case has been registered against him under Prevention of Corruption Act.
