The love story of E. Ilavarasan and N. Divya may have reached a tragic end with the Dalit youth’s death, but his mortal remains are yet to be interred peacefully.

A Division Bench of Madras High Court on Friday directed the authorities to preserve Ilavarasan’s body so that a second autopsy, if needed, could be done. Another Bench directed the police to provide sufficient security to Divya, her mother and her brother.

On Friday morning, a Bench comprising Justices V.Dhanapalan and C.T.Selvam took up habeas corpus petition filed by A. Ramesh, who described himself as Ilavarasan’s friend. The petitioner sought a direction to the Dharmapuri District Collector to conduct the post-mortem examination either in the Government Hospital in Coimbatore or in Chennai by a team of doctors in the presence of the youth’s parents and a doctor of the petitioner's choice. He also wanted the autopsy to be video-graphed as per guidelines of the National Human Rights Commission.
