DMK president M. Karunanidhi on Friday took exception to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) report on the 2G spectrum scandal, contending that there were huge differences between the draft prepared by the JPC and the documents available with the Department of Telecommunications.
Talking to reporters, he said JPC’s meeting on Friday was held ignoring the repeated requests of DMK’s parliamentary party leader T.R. Baalu to JPC chairman P.C. Chacko.
“In his letter, Mr Baalu has asked the chairman to ascertain the convenience of the members before fixing the date for the meeting. His request was ignored,” Mr Karunanidhi said.

He said Mr Baalu had communicated to Mr Chacko that he had no option but to send important documents to all members of the JPC.
Asked about the proposed ordinance to save convicted legislators from immediate disqualification, Mr Karunanidhi said it was a legal issue and he was not ready for a discussion whether it was right or wrong.
When his attention was drawn to the allegation that the DMK had failed to raise its objection to a meeting attended by Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, he said in India the right to organise meetings and freedom of expression were not banned.

“There is nothing wrong in people expressing their view points,” he said.
When asked whether the BJP would have an alliance with the DMK or the AIADMK since Mr Modi who was highly critical of the Congress had spared the two Dravidian parties, he said the DMK had not taken any stand on the issue.
“Even if we have taken, we will not disclose it,” he added.
On a Sri Lankan court order taking over the boats of Tamil fishermen arrested by the Sri Lankan government, he said he could not comment without fully knowing the details of the court direction.
