DMK leader M. Karunanidhi, who is highly critical of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) report on the 2G scam, has endorsed the BJP’s scathing attack on the report.
In a statement here on Saturday, he recalled the letter of BJP’s member in the JPC on 2G, Yashwant Sinha, to Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar requesting her to reject the panel’s report.
In his letter Mr. Sinha had complained that JPC chairperson P C Chacko had blatantly violated rules and norms in finalising the document.
Mr. Karunanidhi’s contention was that there were huge differences between the draft prepared by the JPC and the documents available with the Department of Telecommunications.
‘TASMAC scam’
Mr. Karunanidhi wanted the State government to initiate an inquiry into the alleged multi-crore scam in the operations of the TASMAC in Madurai region.
In a statement here, he said there were irregularities in procurement, transportation, transfer of retail outlet employees, reinstatement of employees and grant of licence for bars, and the State unit of the CPI(M) had demanded an inquiry into the allegations.
“Since a friendly party of the AIADMK has demanded an inquiry, we can hope that the State government will order a probe,” Mr. Karunanidhi said.
The DMK leader also alleged that the State government had started collecting tariff of Rs. one lakh per day for cinema shooting on the campus of the Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University.
