Continuing the crackdown on Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leaders, vigilance officials on Wednesday raided six premises belonging to former Tamil Nadu Minister Thangam Thennarasu and his relatives in four districts of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai.
The raids were also conducted in Madurai, Virudhunagar and Dindigul.
The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption conducted a probe on specific information that Mr. Thennarasu, while serving as School Education Minister, had allegedly acquired properties in his name and in his family’s to the tune of several lakhs of rupees, an official release said.

A prima facie case has been made out that Mr. Thennarasu allegedly accumulated assets disproportionate to his known sources of income to the tune of Rs. 82,97,535 in his name and in the name of his family during May 15, 2006 to March 31, 2010, it said.
In this regard, a case was registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
Mr. Thennaarasu, now an MLA, is the latest among several DMK leaders and former Ministers besides MLAs to face police and DVAC action either on land grab charges or allegations of disproportionate assets, after the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam government came to power in April 2011.

The DVAC had earlier conducted raids at the houses of 11 former DMK Ministers, party MLA J. Anbazhagan and former legislator B. Ranganathan.
