The Lok Sabha witnessed four forced adjournments on Monday before being wound up for the day as members of the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the AIADMK stalled the proceedings on separate issues.
The SP members were protesting against the Bill to provide quota in government job promotions for SC/ST employees. They wanted separate reservation for Muslims as the Sachhar committee had highlighted the poor economic and social conditions of Muslims in the country.
The AIADMK members were objecting to the long delay in providing digital conditional access licence to the Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation.
The AIADMK members raised the issue in the Rajya Sabha as well and they alleged that the Centre was not granting the licence to the Corporation for starting operations in Chennai even though it had granted the same to nine other multiple system operators (MSOs) who had applied later.
Amid interruptions, the Lok Sabha carried out a few business listed for the day which included a statement made by Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde on the recent visit of Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik and zero hour submission by BJP member Yashwant Sinha. Mr. Sinha wanted India to suspend its dialogue with Pakistan till the latter brought the culprits of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks to book.
