A day after Mulayam Singh Yadav threatened to review support to the UPA if the quota in promotion bill is passed in the Rajya Sabha, the Samajwadi Party (SP) accused the Centre of using the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to “blackmail” Mr. Singh.
The SP on Sunday alleged that since “Mr. Singh is opposed to FDI in retail and reservation in promotion, efforts are being made to entangle him in a CBI probe.”
In a statement issued here, spokesperson of the Uttar Pradesh unit of the SP, Rajendra Chaudhary, said “a conspiracy has been hatched to blackmail Mr. Mulayam Singh by using the CBI as a tool.”
Referring to the reported statements of two former CBI directors about the investigating agency working under pressure of the (Central) government, Mr. Chaudhary alleged that the UPA government was trying to stifle Mr. Singh’s opposition to FDI in retail and quota in promotion.
Mr. Chaudhary said that despite the pressures, Mr. Singh will not compromise on his principles.
