Somali pirates on July 16 hijacked a UAE (United Arab Emirates) cargo ship off the coast of Yemen and took all the 16 crew members, including five Indians, hostage.

According to the Ministry of Shipping sources, MV Jubba was on its way from UAE to the port of Berbera, Somalia, when about nine Somali pirates boarded the vessel that had a crew of five Indians, four Somalians, three Bangladeshis, a Sri Lankan, a Myanmarese, a Sudanese, and a Kenyan.

Sources said maritime patrol aircraft located the hijacked vessel 100 nautical miles north-west of Socotra Island heading towards the northern Somali coast.
