Social activist Anna Hazare speaks to the media after attending a Parliamentary panel meeting at the Parliament Annexe on Wednesday.

The Delhi Police have offered the Jayaprakash Narayan National Park along the Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg in New Delhi as venue to Team Anna for holding its proposed fast, subject to permission from the land owning agency, the CPWD.

“The offer was communicated to them in the evening. A decision on the time period will be taken once they get the requisite permission from the CPWD,” said a police officer.

The venue offered is located next to the Shahidi Park, which was one of the four places proposed by Team Anna.

“We have been informed about it. We will soon approach the land owning authority, seeking permission for holding the fast,” said a team member.

The India Against Corruption team, the organisation corresponding on behalf of Anna Hazare, had suggested four places — the Ramlila Grounds, Rajghat, Boat Club and the Shahidi Park near the ITO — after the police did not give them permission for an indefinite fast at Jantar Mantar from August 16 onwards.

“Permission has not been granted for any of the venues proposed by them for location-specific reasons, which include law and order issues and because they are seeking it for an indefinite period,” said the police officer.
