A Maharashtra Public Service Commission aspirant killed herself on July 20, 2017 in Baramati after blaming a Central Reserve Police Force commando and seven others in her suicide note, police has said. She had alleged mental harassment and blackmail among other reasons for her decision.

The incident occurred in the evening of July 20, 2017, said the distraught kin of the woman. In a detailed and impassioned three-page note, the woman revealed she had known the CRPF commando for the past year-and-a-half and alleged that she had been lured into a physical relationship by him on false promises. The woman had accused others named in note of continuous blackmail and threat in the last three years.

"They used to harass me at tuition classes and the academy with the baleful intention of coercing me into sexual relationship. They said they would tarnish my reputation... My loved ones are not aware of these events. I have been traumatised for the past several months... seek justice against those named in my letter," reads the note.

An officer with the Baramati Police Station said, "The girl apparently never confided in her parents about these events for fear of causing distress to them. We have lodged an FIR against those named in the suicide note and are probing the case to determine all angles." Police have lodged an FIR under sections 306 (abetment of suicide) and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) acting on a complaint lodged by the woman’s kin.
