‘We are in favour of elections,’ says Mamata

“We are in favour of elections and hope the polls are held,” Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said here on Tuesday hours after the Calcutta High Court was informed that the Centre would not be able to provide security forces for the rural polls in the State.

Ms. Banerjee refused to comment on the ongoing litigation between the State government and the State Election Commission, saying: “Let them [Division Bench] pass an order, then I will give my opinion.”

The Chief Minister, who has been campaigning extensively in different districts of south Bengal over the past week, left for Jhargram in the State’s Paschim Medinipur district located in the Maoist-affected Jangalmahal region.
