Even as the police groped in the dark to nail the culprits in the alleged gang-rape and murder incident at Mohanlalganj in Lucknow district, four teams have been constituted to work out the sensational crime. Two teams will work under the SP (Rural Area) and two others under SP (Crime).

The 25-year-old victim belonging to Lucknow has been identified, but the ADG ( Economic Offences Wing) and the Nodal Officer to monitor investigations in crime against women, Sutapa Sanyal, refused to give further details. “The police has gathered crucial leads about the persons involved in the crime, but to disclose details even about her family would affect investigations, it is a blind case,” Ms. Sanyal told journalists.

While a case was registered and the crime was purportedly committed on Wednesday, nobody had come to claim the woman’s body.

The victim’s body bearing about a dozen injuries was found in the premises of a primary school in Bansi Singh Kheda village under Mohanlalganj police station area on Thursday. The spot on Mohanlalganj-Banthra road is about 22 kilometres from the State Capital. With the gory incident creating ripples in the State Capital, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav summoned DGP A. L. Banerjee and senior police officials to know about the progress of the case. It was at the Chief Minister’s behest that Ms. Sanyal was asked to monitor the investigation.
