On the call given by the Centre of Indian Trade Unions, workers in Himachal staged protests and observed the May Day at more than two dozen places in the State on Friday.
State CITU secretary Vijendra Mehra said the workers protested mainly against the anti-working class policies of the governments at the State and Centre and supported the struggle of Jaypee Workers Union of Karcham Wangtoo and Baspa hydro projects in Kinnaur.
The protesters also burnt the effigies of Jaypee management and State government at several places.

The workers in these projects are continuing their strike for more than 100 days.
Two workers were killed due to the cold wave when they were sleeping outside and were not allowed to enter the labour camps inside the project sites, he alleged.
CITU workers, who staged a massive rally outside the District Magistrate’s office here, also blamed the government for not aligning the minimum wages with the price index and ongoing inflation.
