The defence lawyer of one of the Azad Maidan protesters has moved an application, alleging that he is a minor, and therefore, illegally detained by the Mumbai Crime Branch.

“We produced the birth certificate and the Aadhar card before the magistrate, according to which he is sixteen-and-a-half years old. The medical examination report is still awaited. In the meanwhile, the magistrate has directed that he be lodged in the juvenile home,” Defence lawyer, Wahab Khan, told The Hindu on the phone.

Mr. Khan pointed out that the accused was arrested on Wednesday, and his name was widely published in the media, in violation of child rights norms. The police will conduct the accused person’s medical test and submit a report to the court.
