Two Lashkar militants killed in north Kashmir’s Handwara

Late on Monday evening, some gunmen shot dead a person on a vehiclein Srinagar’s Babdam area.

Two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants were gunned down on Tuesday by security forces in north Kashmir’s Handwara.

The militants were hiding in Galoora area of Langate in Handwara. “On Monday night, security forces launched a search operation based on credible inputs about the presence of militants at Galoora area. During the searches, the militants fired on the search party, which was retaliated, leading to an encounter. The two militants were killed in the ensuing encounter,” a police spokesman said.

Arms and ammunition were seized from the encounter site.

The authorities have snapped Internet services in Handwara. Class work in local higher secondary schools of Handwara, Mawar and Langate Zones were also stopped "as a precautionary measure".

Civilian killed in Srinagar

Late on Monday evening, some gunmen shot dead a person on a vehiclein Srinagar’s Babdam area.

The police identified the victim as Abdul Ahad Ganie, a resident of Sheikhpora, Lalpora, Kupwara.

“Investigation has been launched into the killing,” said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Srinagar, Imtiaz Ismail Parray.

It was the third mysterious killing by unknown gunmen in the past three days.
