Truck mows down eight members of marriage party near Dhanbad

While four died on the spot, the rest, including the father of the bridegroom, died in hospital

A truck mowed down eight members of a marriage party, including the father of the bridegroom, and injured six others on GT Road near Mugma, about 45 km from Dhanbad. The truck was carrying illegal coal and while fleeing after knocking down a bike at Nirsa bazar, it ran over members of the marriage party when they were about to reach the house of the bride at about 10.30 p.m. last night.

While four died on the spot, the rest, including the father of the bridegroom, died in hospital. Six injured are still in hospital.

The marriage party was coming from Baridih of Jamshedpur to Manmandih colliery colony of Nirsa block.

Angry locals set ablaze the truck and blocked the National Highway-2 for more than two hours.

The truck driver escaped.
