Intelligence inputs led Tripura police to issue an alert over criminals hiring private houses to commit subversive activities in the state. The police headquarters said the suspicious people are putting into accommodations at new places to take advantage of their anonymity in the area.
A police officer on Sunday said the communiqué issued by the state police headquarters used the phrase ‘criminal’, but it relates to even elements linked with extremist groups. “For the first time we have issued such alert for safety and security of general public”, the officer who requested not to use his name told The Hindu .
Unlike many other places Tripura police was not practicing mandatory ‘tenant information verification’ procedure. The lacuna even helped the perpetrators of serial blasts in Agartala on evening of October 1 in 2008 to plot from their rented houses.

The police headquarters in its communiqué has appealed people to furnish details of their tenants to nearest police station or the outpost in the prescribed format. The police will supply the forms on demand or can be downloaded from its website.
The communiqué said the compliance of the system would avoid any legal complication in future if tenant is found to be involved in criminal activity of any nature.
