Raising serious doubts about the Trinamool Congress government’s intention to bring out the truth in regard to the Saradha group scam, the former West Bengal Chief Minister, Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, said on Sunday the ruling party had become one with the company.
“I have doubts about the intention of the State government. Will the truth in connection to the company ever come out?” Mr. Bhattacharjee asked, stating that the State government and the Trinamool Congress would find themselves in a difficult position if the truth was revealed.
Addressing a rally at Panihati in the State’s North 24 Parganas district, Mr. Bhattacharjee, who is also a member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) Polit Bureau, said that “there is no need for a new legislation” to take action against those involved in the scam as the one passed by the previous Left Front government had enough provisions to deal with it.

“Over the past two years, a number of television channels and newspapers were started by the company [Saradha group] whose objective was to support the State government and criticise the Left Front,” he said, adding, that Trinamool representatives were heading these media houses either directly or indirectly.
Commenting on the ties between the Trinamool and the Saradha group involved in illegal collective investment schemes in the State, Mr. Bhattacharjee said that during the 2011 Assembly elections, representatives of such companies had campaigned for the Trinamool.
