Tribal girl rape: students’ union demand dismissal of officials

The Tribal Disabled Students' Union has demanded termination from services the officials who were suspended in connection with the rape of a physically challenged 15 years old tribal girl on April 13.

She was an inmate of the hostel of the Blind School at Takyelpat in Imphal. The watchman of the school was arrested in connection with this crime.

Talking to reporters on Wednesday Momo Tamtamnga, president of the disabled tribal students said that mere suspension of the officials is not enough. They should be terminated. He also said that adequate financial solatium should be given to the victim.

He further said that if the government does not do accordingly the disabled students in the state shall take out a rally on July 16 in the streets of Imphal.

Police sources said that the accused has been booked for rape. The suspended officials are charged with lack of supervision leading to the crime in the hostel.
