Three lions died on Monday night after they were hit by a goods train near the Gir forest in Gujarat’s Amreli district.

The train headed for Pipavav port hit three of a group of six lions that were walking along the railway track.

“We will probe weather the train was moving at a high speed. We will also probe weather the forest staff or lion trackers failed to discharge their duties. Stringent action will be taken against the guilty,” said D.T. Vasavada, Chief Conservator of Forest, Junagadh Wildlife circle.
