Three Maoists surrender

Three hardcore Maoists including a female, who had reward of one lakh rupees on each of their heads, surrendered in Malkangiri district of Odisha on Monday.

One of them, Irma Kawasi (28) from Mathili police station area of Malkangiri district was alleged to be involved in the naxalite attack on a convoy of Congress leaders in Darbha ghat area of Sukma district in Chhatisgarh. The other two surrendered Maoists from Kalimela police station area were Era Madkami and the female cadre Radhika alias Bhime Madhi (19). All of them surrendered before Malkangiri Superintendent of Police (SP) Mitrabhanu Mohapatra. According to Mr. Mohapatra these three were involved in over 29 cases of Maoist violence in Malkangiri district that includes murders, landmine blasts, ambushes aimed at security forces. Because of this Odisha government had declared reward of one lakh rupees for capture of each of them.

Kawasi was an armed cadre of Mahupadar Local Operating Squad (LOS) in Malkangiri district that functions under the Darbha Division of Chhatisgarh of Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee of outlawed CPI (Maoist) organization. He was wanted in at least five murder cases. The other two were armed cadres of Kalimela Area committee under the Malkangiri Division of the Andhra Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC) of Maoists.
