Three persons wanted by the Navi Mumbai Police for their alleged involvement in crimes during the Maratha agitation last week were arrested at a hotel in Calangute, North Goa, on Thursday.
The accused have been identified as Bhushan Bhagwan Agaskar, Ashish Kale and Chandrashekhar Vishwanath Patil, all residents of Koparkhairane, Navi Mumbai.
Jivba Dalvi, police inspector in-charge, Calangute police station, said the three were allegedly involved in attacking civilians during the strike called by leaders of the Maratha community, seeking reservation in government jobs and education, across Maharashtra on July 25. Navi Mumbai, in particular, witnessed several clashes between the rioters and the police.

“A first information report has been registered against the three under Sections 326, 302, 143, 147, 148 and 149 of the Indian Penal Code at Koparkhairane police station,” Mr. Dalvi said.
The request for the arrest was made by the Navi Mumbai Crime Branch.
