Ten days after his former employee Geetika Sharma (23) hanged herself, and more than a week after he was summoned to join the investigations, former Haryana Minister and MDLR group owner Gopal Kanda continued to be at large on Wednesday, awaiting the Delhi High Court’s verdict on his anticipatory bail plea.
The High Court on Tuesday had reserved its order on Mr. Kanda’s plea. A similar plea had been rejected by a Rohini court on August 9.
Nearly 60 people have been questioned so far, and seven teams were sent out on Wednesday to look for the former Minister.

Geetika, who joined the now defunct MDLR Airlines first as a flight attendant in 2006, and then rejoined another MDLR subsidiary as a director in 2011, had committed suicide on August 5. In her suicide note, she had accused Mr. Kanda and his associate Aruna Chadha of having ruined her life and harassing her family members. The police had registered a case under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code against Mr. Kanda and Ms. Chadha.
Investigation in the case had revealed that Geetika was being coerced to join the MDLR group after she resigned from the director’s post in June to pursue management education.

Arguing in the High Court for the Delhi Police on Tuesday, Additional Solicitor-General Siddharth Luthra had told the court that there was enough evidence in the documents recovered by the police, which pointed to harassment and provocation by Mr. Kanda.
Meanwhile, Ms. Chadha’s police custody will end on Thursday and she will be presented before the court.
