Tarun Tejpal case: arguments on framing of charges to be heard in June

An Additional District and Sessions Court in north Goa will hear arguments on framing of charges against founder and former editor of Tehelka Tarun Tejpal on June 16 and 17.

Tejpal was charge-sheeted for alleged rape of a junior colleague in 2013.

On Friday, the matter was placed before Additional District and Sessions Judge Vijaya Pol and after hearing counsels from both sides, the matter has been fixed for June 16 afternoon and June 17.

The police booked Tejpal after taking suo motu cognisance of media reports and a complaint lodged by the colleague that he sexually abused and raped her in an elevator in November 2013.

While an FIR was lodged on November 22, 2013, he was arrested by the Crime Branch police on November 30 and remained in judicial custody till May 19, 2014. He was given interim bail to attend the cremation of his mother and eventually out on bail.

The Crime Branch filed the charge sheet against him under IPC sections 354, 354-A, 341, 342, 376, 376(2)(f)(376(2)(k).
