A packet of what is suspected to be uranium was recovered at Moreh, the border town of Manipur, on Monday, police sources said.
“Some strangers who spoke the Kuki dialect came to the house of Neineng Maulun, a woman resident of the Ward No. 7 of the town, at 8 am on Monday. They said they were leaving a packet and it would be collected by someone shortly,” said L. Vaiphei, station house officer of the Moreh police station. “However after their departure, she became suspicious and threw out the packet. She then informed the police.”
Police said the packet bore the legend “Uranium Corporation of India Ltd, Shillong (Meghalaya), North Eastern region.”

"Police retrieved the packet at 5:20 pm on Monday and it is now in police custody,” Vaiphei said. “It will be sent to Imphal on Tuesday morning for examination and analysis elsewhere in the country.”
The Union Home Ministry has reportedly taken a serious view of the matter.
