Students caned, probe ordered in Agartala

Fifty-two students of a high school in Agartala were allegedly caned by a teacher, following which the Tripura government ordered a probe.

Guardians and student organisations staged protests at the Ramkrishna Vivekananda Vidya Mandir on Tuesday and demanded that the teacher, Shivaji Debbarma, be sacked.

The teacher punished the studentsof Class IX for being ‘disobedient.’ Several students sustained injuries. Fellow teachers later restrained Mr. Debbarma.
