Strike by 2 lakh Uttarakhand govt. employees

Work in government offices came to a near standstill in Uttarakhand on Thursday as about two lakh employees of 57 departments began a statewide indefinite strike demanding at least three promotions during their service period, removal of anomalies in the pay structure, and an effective transfer policy.

Expressing displeasure at the government’s failure in issuing orders on demands that were accepted over two months ago, the Rajya Karamchari Sanyukt Parishad president, Prahalad Singh, wondered why the authorities had failed to issue the orders agreed upon by the Chief Secretary and the union leaders.
