Speeding vehicle mows down 12 labourers in Mathura

Twelve labourers, including two women were killed while eight others injured after being mowed down by a speeding vehicle at the Kotban border in Mathura district on Tuesday, police said.

The vehicle was coming from Agra and was on way to Delhi and the incident took place under the Kosi police station.

“Eleven died in the incident first. And, three of the nine injured brought to the district hospital, owing to their serious conditions were rushed to SN Medical College in Agra, where one of them later succumbed,” Deputy SP Atul Kumar Srivastava said.

After rescue operation, the police rushed the injured to district hospital.

District Magistrate B. Chandrakala later rushed to district hospital and ensured proper treatment for the injured.

“While the next kith and kin of the deceased will get Rs two lakh, every injured would be given Rs 50 thousand each”, she said.

The accident occurred at about 4 am when the vehicle mowed down the labourers, who were waiting for the repair of their truck at roadside.

The labourers worked at a brick kiln in Rajasthan and were and on their way to Hanumangarhi in Rajasthan, officials said, adding the driver and the cleaner absconded.
