Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan visited pavement-dwellers and night shelters in the state capital, apparently to get the first-hand account of prevailing conditions there and check government preparedness.

Mr. Chouhan left his official residence at around 9.45 p.m. and visited night shelters situated in Jehangirabad and New Market areas and at Nadira bus stand last night, sources said on Sunday.

Accompanied by Bhopal Collector Nishant Warvade and Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials, Mr. Chouhan also enjoyed a cup of tea at a kiosk in New Market area.

Addressing reporters later, Mr. Chouhan expressed his satisfaction with the arrangements in place at these places meant for labourers and destitute elderly persons.

Sources said the chief minister also directed officials to increase space and other facilities at the night shelter situated opposite Sultania-Janana Hospital.

The sources said Mr. Chouhan requested the people spending nights in open on pavements to go to night shelters but they refused saying they are happy outside.
