Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde on Tuesday met Jharkhand Governor Syed Ahmed and his advisors to review implementation of security and development measures.

Soon after arrival at Ranchi, he visited the Central Reserve Police Force’s 214 battalion at Saryu in Latehar district, 110 km from here, and addressed jawans. It was in this village the CRPF had carried out extensive operations against Maoists in August 2011.

Later, Mr. Shinde met schoolchildren and staff of a government school adjoining the CRPF camp.

In the afternoon meeting in Ranchi, “he reviewed security measures and the operations we have launched in the last three months. We made a presentation on development efforts in the State,” said Director-General of Police Rajeev Kumar.

In 2012, Jharkhand witnessed 480 incidents of Maoist-related violence including 163 killings, the highest number among all States. In the same period, Chhattisgarh reported 370 incidents and 109 killings.
