February 25, 2013 02:52 am | Updated November 16, 2021 10:21 pm IST - Agartala:

Preparations are in full swing for snag-free counting of votes on February 28 for the Tripura Assembly elections.

Officials said extra security was in place in view of the nationwide alert issued after Thursday’s Hyderabad blasts. Counting would be held in 17 places across the State, Chief Electoral Officer Ashutosh Jindal said on Sunday.

Mr. Jindal and Chief Secretary S.K. Panda held a meeting with all returning officers. The Election Commission has appointed 60 observers for the 60 constituencies to oversee counting. They would reach the State on February 26. A team of experts from the Electronic Corporation of India (ECIL) will be available for smooth counting of votes.

Three-tier security measures are contemplated around the counting centres. Security has been beefed up in vulnerable areas, especially along the border with Bangladesh.
