Rousing welcome awaits Rahul in Manipur

All preparations have been made to accord a rousing welcome to the AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi who is arriving at Imphal on Wednesday at 2 p.m. Disclosing it to reporters on Tuesday the PCC president Gaikhangam Gangmei who is also the deputy Chief Minister said that Mr Gandhi will be arriving at Imphal by a special aircraft from Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya where he will launch electioneering.

Soon after arrival at the Tulihal airport, Mr Gandhi shall rush to Wangjing Kadampokpi in Thoubal district by a helicopter. He is scheduled to address a public meeting there. Mr. Gangmei said that steps have been taken to ensure that there is a good gathering.

He further said that security measures have been beefed up to ensure no untoward incident takes place. Meanwhile, the BJP is organising a public meeting in the same district on the same day. It may be recalled that one banned underground organisation has declared a general strike during the visit of the PCC vice president. Another outfit has also asked the people not to participate in the election meetings.
