A male rhino calf of Kaziranga National Park injured in tiger attack was rescued and treated on Monday at the Centre for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation (CWRC), which is run by the International Fund for Animal Welfare and the Wildlife Trust of India.
Dr. Pranjit Basumtary, who led the Mobile Veterinary Service (MVS) team of the CWRC to the spot following an emergency call by the park authorities, told The Hindu that the male rhino calf, approximately three months old, was found near Japori Gaon, a fringe village near Agoratoli Range of the National Park.
“It was lying in the backyard of a house adjacent to paddy village with several tiger attack injury marks. It was limping and unable to move properly. We restrained the calf physically, provided first aid treatment and then brought it to CWRC for further investigation and intensive care. We have started antibiotics and kept it on observation for next 24 hours,” added Dr. Basumatary.
